The World's Largest Container Ship 'MSC China' delivered

news-details

On October 9, the 24,000TEU-class ultra-large container ship "MSC CHINA" ("Mediterranean China") built by Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, for China State Shipbuilding Corporation (Hong Kong) Shipping Leasing and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), was announced one month ahead of schedule. It was completed and delivered at the China Changxing Shipbuilding Base in March. This is another achievement achieved by CSSC Leasing in fully implementing the operating leasing strategy following the naming and delivery of the "MSC CLAUDE GIRARDET" ("Mediterranean Claude GIRARDET") in Hudong Zhonghua on September 11. It also highlights the Jiangnan Shipbuilding has profound capabilities in the field of ultra-large container ship construction.

The ship was designed by Hudong Zhonghua and classified as DNV. The ship has a total length of 399.99 meters, a molded width of 61.5 meters, and a molded depth of 33.2 meters. The deck area is close to 4 standard football fields. The maximum number of container stacks can reach 25, which is equivalent to the height of a 22-story building. It can load 24,116 containers. It is called The "Super Cargo King" at sea.

The ship is equipped with a hybrid Scrubber desulfurization device, as well as a unique small bulbous bow, large-diameter propeller and energy-saving duct. At the same time, the bubble drag reduction system is used for the first time, which not only effectively reduces the total energy consumption of the ship, but also reduces the corresponding total carbon emissions by 3%-4%, which can reduce more than 6,000 tons throughout the year. The shaft generator system is used for the first time, which can effectively reduce fuel consumption, optimize fuel consumption and ship energy efficiency design index (EEDI), and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is known as the "green giant".

Jiangnan Shipbuilding always adheres to the construction concept of "one ship is better than another", tries its best to meet the reasonable needs of ship owners, and ensures rhythmic construction and continuous improvement of quality.

Before the ship undocking, the engine room was polished, the generators in the four core areas were returned to the top, and the scaffolding was dismantled, etc., laying a solid foundation for the generator operation directly after undocking.

Through the reasonable allocation of production resources, after the ship was undocking in June this year, it took 15 days to complete the generator operation, 1 month to complete the air test, 2 months to complete the trial return to the factory, and 3 months to successfully deliver the ship, further consolidating It shortened the construction cycle of Jiangnan Shipbuilding's ultra-large container ship "843" and set a new benchmark for the construction of subsequent ships.

"In order to meet the demand for ships, the ship was delivered one month earlier than originally planned. Jiangnan Shipbuilding gave full understanding and full cooperation during the construction process, which allowed us to deeply appreciate the speed and quality of Jiangnan Shipbuilding." The shipowner's representative praised.

Up to now, Jiangnan Shipbuilding and Hudong-Zhonghua, two Shanghai shipbuilding companies under China State Shipbuilding Corporation, have completed and delivered 13 of the world's largest 24,000TEU-class ultra-large container ships, 8 of which are tailor-made for Mediterranean Shipping. To this end, Shanghai has become the global R&D and construction center for ultra-large container ships, and Mediterranean Shipping Company has become one of the important strategic partners of China Shipbuilding Corporation.

The "Mediterranean China" is scheduled to launch its maiden voyage on October 13, with the destination port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
